HONOLULU

Wa'ahila action may be delayed

The Board of Land and Natural Resources will hear a request at its meeting Friday by Hawaiian Electric Co. to extend the decision-making period for 60 days on the utility's request to use conservation land for its 138,000-volt transmission line along Wa'ahila Ridge.

HECO spokesman Chuck Freedman said the request is really only to allow the board more time if it needs it. Only the applicant can request an extension, he said.

The current deadline for a decision on the $31 million project is July 15, which would be pushed to mid-September if the request if granted.

The land board meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the Kalanimoku building, 1151 Punchbowl St.

Fishing permits available soon

Applications to catch catfish at Nu'uanu Reservoir will be available Monday through July 19 for the fishing season, which begins Aug. 10.

To fish, you need a state freshwater game fishing license and an entry fishing card for Nu'uanu Reservoir.

Prospective anglers may pick up applications for fishing cards at the state Department of Land and Natural Resources visitor center/permit office, 1151 Punchbowl St., Room 130.

Fishing licenses may be purchased from licensing agents at $3 for minors up to 15 years old, $5 for residents, $25 for nonresidents. Seniors 65 and older are free. Fishing will be on Saturdays and Sundays during four-hour time slots selected in a drawing. The bag limit on stocked catfish is two per licensed fisherman.

For fishing license agent locations or more information, call 587-0100.
