Movie Openings

"Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys": In the mid-1970s, four friends at a Catholic school resent the strict Sister Assumpta (Jodie Foster) and devise a rebellion that takes two forms: a comic book (which is represented with brilliant animated sequences), and practical jokes (stealing a statue, kidnapping a cougar). Opens tomorrow at Restaurant Row Theatres. (R)

"Dogtown and Z Boys": A documentary about the members of the Zephyr Team, who revolutionized skateboarding in Los Angeles in the 1970s and essentially invented the modern sport and its offspring, ski acrobatics. Opens tomorrow at Varsity Twin. (PG-13).

"Hey Arnold! The Movie": A full-length animated feature based on the hit Nickelodeon cartoon series about a truly decent boy named Arnold. "Made in Japan": A 1993 film from Japan originally titled "We Are Not Alone," this comedy follows the adventures of a kooky Japanese businessman who arrives in a backwater Asian country called Talckistan. "Maelstrom": A surreal drama about a woman whose life comes apart after she has an abortion. Opens tomorrow at Restaurant Row Theatres. In French, with English subtitles. (Not rated, but contains nudity, sex, complex adult themes)

"Mr. Deeds": Adam Sandler stars in a modern retelling of the Gary Cooper classic "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town," about a man who abruptly becomes a billionaire.
