Alzheimer's group fund-raiser tonight
The Aloha Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association presents its annual fund-raiser, "Moonlight and Magic Tango!" at 6 tonight in the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Coral Ballroom.
Now in its 13th year, the event raises money to support programs and services for the more than 20,000 people in Hawai'i suffering from Alzheimer's. One of the group's most prominent programs is the "Safe Return" identification program for potential wanderers.
Paul Brown is event chairman, Traci Toguchi is Alzheimer's-Aloha Chapter spokeswoman, and the event's honorary chairmen are KITV anchors Pamela Young and Gary Sprinkle.
The evening begins with a hosted martini bar and a silent auction offering more than 250 items. Dinner entertainment includes tango performances by Mariko Lyons and Claudio Otero, with after-dinner music and dancing by Hula Joe & The Hutjumpers. A "Sweet Memories" dessert auction will be offered. A disco party follows, 10 p.m.-midnight.
Tickets are $100. To make reservations, call the Alzheimer's Association at 591-9071.
The association is a source of information and support for the 4 million Americans who suffer from the disease.
