WINDWARD

Dedication of senior housing

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands will hold a dedication ceremony for the Waimanalo kupuna apartment project at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the site, 41-209 Ilauholi St.

The 85-unit, $11.5 million complex is the first rental development constructed by the DHHL. The one-bedroom/one-bath garden apartments sit on 5.9 acres of land opposite Waimanalo Beach Park.

The apartments are expected to rent for $311 to $553 a month.


Grants for women's aid

The Hawai'i Women's Legal Foundation is accepting applications for its 2002 grant requests from nonprofit groups for projects that will help improve the legal status and welfare of women and children in Hawai'i.

Previous grants have included repair work at the Windward Abuse Shelter, producing videos for the Family Court and providing sewing machines for vocational training.

About $15,000 is available for grants which usually range from about $2,000 to $5,000.

HONOLULU

Evening music at cathedral

An evening of choir singing will be presented starting at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrew's Cathedral, Beretania and Queen Emma streets.

The choir will perform works of Hawells, Durufle and Mendelssohn, followed by an organ recital by cathedral musician Arlan Sunnarborg performing "Choral No. 3 in A Minor," by Franck; "Ave Maria Stella," by Langlais; and "Suite Gothique," by Boellmann.

The event is free, but offerings will be accepted. A reception will follow.


Student aid for disabled

The Venture Club of Honolulu is seeking applicants for the Venture Club of the Americas' annual Student Aid Award for Physically Disabled Students.

The Hawai'i winner will receive $1,000 and will be eligible for regional and national awards.

To be eligible, candidates must be physically challenged Hawai'i residents between 15 and 40 years old, in need of financial aid for their education and have the capacity to profit from further education.

Tot storytime in 'Ewa Beach

The 'Ewa Beach Public & School Library will hold preschool Storytime programs every Wednesday this month for children ages 3 to 5 years.

The 30-minute free program will be March 6, 13, 20 and 27. Adult supervision is required.

Those wishing to request a sign-language interpreter should call at least seven days prior to the program. For more information, call 'Ewa Beach librarian Cindy Chow at 689-1204.


CENTRAL

Shuttle bus for Launani

City bus service for Launani Valley residents living between Mililani and Wahiawa is scheduled to begin today.

TheBus Route 503 shuttle will begin in the Launani Valley subdivision north of Mililani, run by the National Guard Armory park-and-ride lot and through portions of Waikalani Drive and Kamehameha Highway before heading past Mililani Shopping Center and the Town Center of Mililani.

The daily shuttle service will run every 15 to 20 minutes during peak morning rush hour periods, with hourly service throughout the rest of the day.

The 7:26 a.m. departure from Laulani Valley will provide access for students attending Mililani High School.
