MORE WATER POLO

• O'Toole honored: Former University of Hawai'i swimmer Maureen O'Toole will be inducted into the California Commission on Athletics Hall of Fame on March 21 in Reno, Nev.

O'Toole is regarded by some as the greatest female water polo player of all time, but attended Hawai'i from 1981-85 on a swimming scholarship as there was little opportunity at that time to play collegiate water polo. When women's water polo made its debut at the 2000 Olympic Games, O'Toole helped the U.S. win a silver medal.

The Commission on Athletics governs community college sports in California. O'Toole played on the men's water polo team at Long Beach Community College before attending Hawai'i.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

• UH men second: The University of Hawai'i men took second at the National Independent Conference Championships with 567 points, behind Southern Methodist's 923 at Rochester, Mich.

UH's Cheyne Bloch took first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 58.94 seconds, and Kurt Boehm also placed first in the 200-yard Fly with a 1:47.26.

The UH women placed sixth out of six teams in the Western Athletic Conference Championships with 371 points at San Antonio, Texas, SMU won with 828 points.

Divers Sarah Farr and Maggie Roberts took first and second in 3-meter diving, with 487.70 and 479.30 points, respectively. Roberts was named the WAC co-Diver of the Year along with Katie Oiness of Nevada.

Hawai'i's Mike Brown was also named the WAC's Diving Coach of the Year.
