Hilo Hattie sells sewing division

Hilo Hattie sold its sewing department to Dick Murray Co., which will offer jobs to all 73 employees in the department, Hilo Hattie CEO Paul deVille said.

The sale will close on April 30 or later, Hilo Hattie said in a filing with the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. DeVille said the sale will reduce Hilo Hattie's total work force to about 470 employees from 540.

DeVille said Hilo Hattie will maintain quality control and will still do its own design, sourcing of fabric and cutting.
