CENTRAL

Sinkhole repair completed

Crews finished repairing a sinkhole early yesterday along Kamehameha Highway in Pearl City that had snarled traffic since the cave-in Thursday.

Repair work was completed around 3 a.m., and road crews did cleanup throughout the day.

The sinkhole, near Hawaiian Electric Co.'s Waiau power plant, had closed all but one town-bound lane. It measured 25 feet by 25 feet on Thursday and grew.


HONOLULU

Ethics board seeks member

The state Judicial Council is accepting applications for a seat on the state Ethics Commission when Cassandra Abdul's term expires June 30.

The commission oversees the ethical conduct of legislators, registered lobbyists and state employees.

Applicants should send a letter, resume and three letters of recommendation by April 1 to the Judicial Council, Hawai'i Supreme Court, 417 S. King St., Honolulu 96813-2902.

NORTH SHORE

Puppeteer plans shows

Award-winning theater artist Joe Pipik of Washington will perform "Jogi and the Rainbow" with a dozen hand and rod puppets at O'ahu libraries this month.

Pipik and his Backpack Puppets will perform at the Waialua Library at 10 a.m. Saturday; Pearl City at 10:15 a.m. March 11; and at Mililani at 10:30 a.m. March 12.

The free program is designed for kids ages 3 to 7.

EAST HONOLULU

Kuli'ou'ou board to meet

The Kuli'ou'ou Kalani Iki Neighborhood Board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the 'Aina Haina Public Library to hear a presentation about The Bus Rapid Transit program and consider a name change for the board.

Area lawmakers and representatives from city and state government also will address the board.

Community center planned

The city has hired a consultant to look into purchasing the Maunalua Bay Tennis Club on Kalaniana'ole Highway near 'Aina Haina to convert to a community center. The project emerged from the city's visioning process, which provided $30,000 for the study.

Bill Chang has been hired to organize an informal task force and represent the wishes of all East Honolulu residents.
