Inoue takes on tough Brazilian

In yet another Super Brawl — No. 23 to be exact — Manoa's Egan Inoue will defend his middleweight belt against Brazilian Marco De Silva at the Blaisdell Arena Saturday.

Super Brawl 23

• When: Saturday

• Tickets: Blaisdell box office or charge by phone 526-4400

• Cost: All reserved seating $29 advance, $34 day of show. $50 ringside.

In his last match, Inoue ankle-locked and forced Canadian Joe Doerksen — then the 10th-ranked fighter in mixed martial arts — to submit in less than a minute.

Will this be another quick bout dominated by Inoue?

"No ways," said promoter T. Jay Thompson. "This guy De Silva is a force to be dealt with."

De Silva, a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu, last competed two years ago at Super Brawl 13 in which he quickly disposed of local fighter Ronald Jun by choking him out in less than three minutes.

"In this fight, there is a perceived disadvantage to Egan on the ground, because De Silva may be better then Egan on the ground," Thompson said.

Although Inoue is considered one of the world's best grapplers, "word is Egan is working hard on his striking game; where he plans on keeping the fight standing and knocking De Silva out," Thompson said.

Other bouts: Nick Bradley vs. Lyndon; Zack Light vs. Jason Dacquel; Nasser Lewis vs. Kolo Koka; Hiroshi Tsuruya vs. Andy Wang; Atticus Lish vs. Abe Rodrigues; Ryota Matsune vs. Lincoln Tyler; Jay R. Palmer vs. Eddie Yagin; Jason Drexel vs. Niko Vitale; Renato Bruzzi vs. Cabbage.
