WWW event to be in Waikiki
Honolulu will be the host of the 11th International WWW Conference, WWW2002, May 7-11 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.
The event is being organized by the University of Hawai'i and Pacific Telecommunications Council in cooperation with the International World Wide Web Conference Committee in Geneva, home of the World Wide Web.
About 1,500 international researchers, technologists and leaders from industry and academia are expected to gather in Hawai'i to define, refine, present, demonstrate and discuss the latest ideas and developments in Web technologies and applications.

Teleport wins global honor
Kapolei Teleport, owned and managed by the Estate of James Campbell, won the Teleport Developer of the Year Award for 2002 yesterday from the World Teleport Association. The seventh annual Teleport Awards for Excellence honors outstanding achievement by companies and individuals in the international satellite communications industry during 2001.
This is the first time the award was made to a U.S. teleport. Howard Schwiebert, Campbell Estate's telecommunications development manager, accepted the award in Washington.
The Kapolei Teleport is on a 14.7-acre site and is home to several independent teleport companies including USAsia Telecom (owned largely by Mitsubishi), Loral Cyberstar, TransVision International, Vision Accomplished, and Verizon.
