Busted digit fails to deter golfer

Richard Black
Jan. 5, 2002
Kahuku Golf Course
Hole No. 6, 119 yards, 8-iron

I am a new golfer, but an old soccer player.

I broke the little finger on my left hand in December, blocking a shot in an over-45 league, and had to wear a two-finger splint.

Not to let this mishap affect my new golf passion, I cut the last two fingers out of an old golf glove and headed for Kahuku Golf Course.

I can't drive well, but when I hit my 8-iron off No. 6, I knew I had a "greenie" and probably a good chance at birdie.

As No. 6 is an elevated green, I didn't know I had hit an ace until we reached the green and I found my ball in the cup.

I'm certainly thrilled and want to tell everyone I know — except my doctor.
