Ke'ehi sewage spill contained

Advertiser Staff

City crews this morning finally contained the "substantial" sewage spill that caused untreated effluent to overflow from a ruptured sewer line at a Ke'ehi Lagoon pump station.

The city estimated the spill, near the tennis courts at Ke'ehi Lagoon Park, at 1,000 gallons a minute.

It began at 3:30 p.m. yesterday, and the flow into the lagoon was stopped at 2 a.m. today, said city spokesman Doug Woo. The spill was stopped completely at 5:30 a.m., he added.

Estimates are difficult because the city dispatched 14 pumper trucks to suck up the sewage throughout the repair operation, he said.
