Duke sports and fitness day will benefit boys, girls clubs

Advertiser Staff

The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation is sponsoring the first Duke Sports and Fitness Day, an event that will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Hawai'i.

The half-day event will be tomorrow at the Campbell Estate's beachfront Lanikuhonua in Kapolei from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Three of Duke Kahanamoku's favorite sports — volleyball, canoeing and surfing — will be featured in demonstrations and practical exercises. There will also be a fishing station as well as a healthy lifestyle station.

Among the mentor participants will be paddler Walter Guild and volleyball player Stein Metzger.

Founded more than 25 years ago, the Boys and Girls Club of Hawai'i serves youths ages 7 to 17 in clubs located in Nanakuli, Wai'anae, 'Ewa and McCully, Maui, Kaua'i and the Big Island.

The foundation will donate new volleyball courts in Nanakuli and a new clubhouse in 'Ewa.
