Five arrested in Hilo drug raid after neighbors alert police

Five people were arrested on drug charges Friday after Big Island police followed up on tips from a Neighborhood Watch program and raided a Hilo home.

The Hawaii County police officers, assisted by Hilo vice squad officers, Hilo criminal investigation detectives and the South Hilo Patrol's community officers, served a search warrant at a house on Hale Manu Drive at about 1 p.m.

A man and four women were arrested for promotion of a dangerous drug, promotion of a harmful drug and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.

The man and one of the women had outstanding warrants and were being held in lieu of bail.

The woman, whose bail was $200, resides at the house.

The man had no permanent address. His bail was $4,500.

Police said that in addition to tips from Neighborhood Watch, they also received numerous "nuisance calls" from neighbors concerning the house.
