Family history lesson awaits

How to research family history will be the focus at "Tracing Our Roots," a genealogy workshop from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii.

The workshop, presented by the center and the Hawaii Hiroshima Heritage Study Group, will include sessions on Hawai'i's immigration history, vital records, Internet research and Japanese family crests.

But the program isn't just for those of Japanese ancestry. It will offer information and tools that can apply to anyone's family research, said Helen Takeuchi, JCCH director of community relations. The cost is $50, or $40 for JCCH members, and includes lunch and a manual. For details or to register, call 945-7633.
