Wahine softball team picks up two wins at tourney

Sheri Oronoz came up big for the University of Hawai'i softball team yesterday, picking up a victory on the mound and driving in seven runs in two Rainbow Wahine victories.
Hawai'i beat Loyola Marymount, 6-2, and New Mexico State, 9-2, on the third day of the Chevron Malihini Softball Tournament at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Avenging a 2-1 loss to Loyola Marymount on Friday, the 'Bows got off to a quick start yesterday.
Natalie Gonzales led off the game with a single and scored three batters later when Stacey Porter drove her home with a single.
Oronoz hit a three-run home run to left center in the top of the second inning to put the Rainbow Wahine up 4-0.
Trisha Ramos added a two-run home run in the fifth inning to make the Hawai'i lead 6-1.
Loyola Marymount's Danielle Kaminaka homered in the sixth to score the final run of the game.
Oronoz (10-5) picked up the victory for the Rainbow Wahine, allowing seven hits in seven innings. She batted 2-for-4.
In the second game, Hawai'i rallied to tie the game at 2 in the fourth inning, before breaking open the game against New Mexico State.
Oronoz again provided the big hit, belting a three-run homer in the seventh that provided the final margin of victory. She batted 2-for-2 with four RBIs in the second game.
New Mexico and Oregon State play today at 10 a.m. Hawai'i will play the winner of that game at noon title game.
