Skatepark on agenda
Kaimuki is finally getting another skateboard facility after more than two years. Residents are invited to a planning meeting, 4 p.m. Friday at the Kaimuki Recreation Center, 3521 Wai'alae Ave.
Marcia Mitchell of the city parks department said the facility would be in the Kaimuki Neighborhood Park and include ramps and rails for younger skateboarders.
She hoped other park users would attend the meeting to help with planning and head off any conflicts over space.
A skatepark under the H-1 Freeway at Kapahulu Avenue closed in September 1999, leaving the closest alternative about two miles away in Makiki.
Money for the project will come from the area's vision team. The facility is expected to open this summer.

The board also will try to fill two vacancies from the Lanakila subdistrict.

Damage to the one-story home was estimated at $85,000. The cause is under investigation.
Senator seeks security boost
Sen. Rod Tam, D-13th (Nu'uanu, Downtown, Sand Island), said yesterday that the state should spend $100,000 to hire security guards for senior and disabled public housing facilities.
He cited 23 cases in the past nine years at Hale Po'ai, 1001 North School Street, including a suspicious vehicle, the shooting of a maintenance worker, and robbery and burglary of tenants.
