Woman robbed main BOH branch

Police are searching for a woman who robbed the main branch of Bank of Hawaii yesterday afternoon.

According to police, a woman walked into the bank at 111 S. King St. at 12:40 p.m. and showed a teller a handgun she was carrying under her shirt. The woman took an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect was described as in her 30s to 40s, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 170 pounds. She had black wavy hair worn in a bun.

Police seek help with bank robberies

Police have released a man arrested in connection with one of two bank robberies Thursday and are seeking help finding others involved in the crimes.

The robberies occurred at 11:45 a.m. at the Waipahu branch of City Bank and at 12:30 p.m. at the Pearl City American Savings Bank branch. Police believe the same man robbed both banks.

Based on surveillance photos, the robber is described as a man in his 30s, about 6 feet tall with a heavy build. He has black hair, a tan complexion and mustache. He was wearing wire-frame glasses or dark sunglasses, a dark baseball cap worn backwards, a blue denim long-sleeved shirt over a light-colored T-shirt and dark athletic shoes.

Two men steal jewelry from Waipahu store

Two robbers, one armed, took a glass display case full of merchandise from a Waipahu jewelry store on Saturday.

Police were called after the 3:50 p.m. incident at Ha's Jewelry in the Waipahu Town Center. One robber, described as a man in his mid- to late 30s, entered the store, grabbed a metal rod and smashed a glass display case.

As he was reaching in, he was confronted by a clerk, police said. The second robber, a man in his 30s, walked in and told the first man to leave the store. He then grabbed a small display case and fled, another clerk in pursuit.

The second man pointed a handgun at the clerk before both men fled in a black 1990 Acura. The escape car, identified as a stolen vehicle, later was found in Village Park.

The first man is described as 6 feet tall and weighing about 250 pounds, with short black hair, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. The second man is about 5 feet 10 inches tall, 195 pounds, with long black hair. He was wearing a black sport jacket and dark pants.


Waimanalo man charged in assault

A 32-year-old Waimanalo man was charged yesterday with second-degree assault and first-degree terroristic threatening after a fight in which he is accused of throwing rocks and threatening others with a pair of butcher knives.

Police said the suspect, identified as Dennis Kala, was visiting a girlfriend at 5:50 p.m. Friday at 41-862 'Olu'olu St. in Waimanalo, where he had been told not to come.

A confrontation between Kala and two other men and a woman escalated, and Kala struck one of the men with a metal broomstick, police said.

The others were trying to break up the ensuing fight when Kala ran to the girlfriend's room to retrieve two large butcher knives. He threatened the victims with the knives. As they fled, he hurled rocks, striking two of them.

Kala is being held in lieu of a total of $55,000 bail.


Japanese tourist's purse snatched

Police are seeking a man in his 20s in a purse-snatching reported Sunday by a Japanese tourist.

The robbery occurred at 4:25 a.m. in front of 175 Paoakalani Ave. The man, described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, slender, with a blond crewcut and wearing a white T-shirt, approached the 25-year-old woman from behind while she was returning to the hotel with her sister. He pulled a small purse from her shoulder and fled in a waiting car.


Taxicab driver robbed in Mililani

A pair of robbers described as in their late teens or early 20s robbed a taxi driver Friday night after he drove them to a Mililani address.

The cab driver picked up the suspects in Pearl City. When he arrived at the destination at about 9:15 p.m., one of them pulled out what appeared to be a handgun. They took an undisclosed amount of property and fled on foot.


Police investigating infant's injuries

Police opened an assault investigation late Saturday after hospital workers alerted them of an infant being brought in with head injuries.

The 10-month-old girl, suffering a depressed skull fracture, was brought to Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children at 10:45 p.m.

No arrests have been made.
