Jean Michel Cousteau coming to Hawai'i

Ocean explorer Jean Michel Cousteau will make appearances Friday on O'ahu and Saturday on Kaua'i in celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary.

Cousteau will visit Aliamanu Elementary School in Salt Lake at 10 a.m. Friday to congratulate fifth-grade winners of a sanctuary slogan contest. He will give a talk on ocean stewardship and marine mammal protection.

At noon Saturday, he will be on Kaua'i to help open the fifth annual Kaua'i Family Ocean Fair at Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge.

The ocean fair runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is free. It will feature educators, entertainment, kids' activities and food, as well as discussions on improving classroom lessons on humpback whales and seabirds.
