UH softball team sweeps visiting Loyola

Melissa Coogan pitched a four-hitter as the University of Hawai'i beat Loyola Marymount, 9-0, last night to complete a sweep of a Western Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Rainbow Wahine Stadium.

Kate Judd hit a two-run homer and Stacey Porter a three-run shot in a game that was shortened to 4 1/2 innings.

In the opener, Sheri Oronoz spaced seven hits and April Crowell hit a two-run double with one out in the seventh inning to give coach Bob Coolen his 400th win at UH.

Hawai'i improved to 20-12 overall and 4-0 in the WAC. Loyola fell to 12-19 and 0-4.


MORE SOFTBALL

• UH-Hilo wins one of two: Kristine Kahoalii pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts as Hawai'i-Hilo beat Vanguard University of Costa Mesa, Calif., 9-0, to avoid a sweep at the UHH field.

Vanguard won the opener, 4-0, ending the Vulcans' 13-game win streak.

Hawai'i-Hilo is 16-3, Vanguard 22-9-1.


BASEBALL

• HPU falls: Cal State-Dominguez Hills beat Hawai'i Pacific, 3-2, Monday night at Aloha Stadium.

Cal State-Dominguez Hills improved to 12-10-1, Hawai'i Pacific fell to 16-13.
