Promotion at Kaua'i Electric

Kaua'i Electric has promoted Alton Miyamoto to vice president effective March 26. Miyamoto was previously director of administration for Kaua'i Electric. He succeeds Dave Morgan, who left the Kaua'i utility to take a position with a San Diego-based company.

Miyamoto started with Kaua'i Electric in 1981 as a systems engineer. He was involved with integrating the Lihue Plantation Power Plant into the Kaua'i Electric system, helping to rebuild the system after Hurricane Iniki, and most recently the sale of the utility company.

Kaua'i Island Utility Cooperative recently agreed to purchase Kaua'i Electric, which is owned by Citizens Communications Co. of Stamford, Conn., for $215 million. That is $55 million less than the price the local cooperative offered last year. That deal was later rejected by the state Public Utilities Commission.

Seattle-Maui service added

Hawaiian Airlines has started nonstop Seattle-Maui service.

The daily flight departs Seattle-Tacoma International Airport at 11:10 a.m. PST and arrives in Maui at 3 p.m. HST.

A daily return flight leaves Maui's Kahului Airport at 4:15 p.m. HST and arrives in Seattle at 11:40 p.m. PST.

Hawaiian Airlines has operated a daily nonstop Seattle-Honolulu flight since 1986.

The Seattle-Maui service is the first in a series of new West Coast direct flights by the airline. On June 15, the airline will resume its daily nonstop route between Los Angeles and Maui and will also add daily nonstop service between San Francisco and Maui.
