UH basketball teams: a season to remember
Two successive conference titles in a row. Two successive NCAA tournament appearances.
It adds up to a terrific record for Riley Wallace's Rainbow basketball team, which ended its season yesterday with a first-round 70-58 loss to Xavier.
We suspect the players are feeling a little disappointment and regret today. After all, their objective wasn't simply to get there, it was to win it all. But the hurt will fade, and you can't take away that conference championship, the NCAA invitation or the 27-6 record, the best in the basketball program's history.
And across the country in Oregon, the Rainbow Wahine finished their season with a first-round Women's National Invitational Tournament loss to a much more experienced Oregon State team. Like the men's team, they went out champs with a third straight WNIT invitation to their credit.
That's a lot of achievement to go into the record books and into the memories of the legions of Hawai'i fans who will cherish this basketball season as a season to remember.
