Convenience store robber sought

Police are seeking a man in his early 20s who wielded a knife to rob Don's Makiki 76 service station and Circle K convenience store.

The robber entered the store, at 1406 S. Beretania St., at 3:52 a.m. Friday, brandished a knife and demanded cash from the register. He fled on foot with the money, police said.

The man is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, about 145 pounds, wearing a blue shirt, dark jeans and a yellow knit cap.


Motorcycle crash victim still critical

A 43-year-old man remained hospitalized in critical condition at The Queen's Medical Center last night after a traffic accident on Thursday.

Police said the man's motorcycle was hit by a car making a left turn from Ke'eaumoku Street onto Kina'u Street .

The car and the motorcycle both entered the intersection on a yellow light, according to police.


Man accused of harassing wife

Police have arrested a 56-year-old man in connection with a Feb. 28 incident in which he allegedly harassed his estranged wife in a car chase and rear-ended her vehicle repeatedly.

The fight began at 8 a.m., when the suspect argued with and assaulted his wife in front of her parents' home, police said.

About 2:05 p.m. that day, the wife was driving in Kapolei with her boyfriend and spotted the suspect driving past her in the opposite direction.

The woman turned around and headed for the security of the Kapolei police substation, but the husband pursued her and rammed her car from the back, police said.

She pulled into the Kapolei Shopping Center parking lot, where the suspect allegedly rear-ended her car about eight more times. He fled, and the victim went to the substation to file the complaint, police said

The suspect was arrested at a Ma'ili home Friday and faces criminal property damage and abuse charges.


Big Island police find stolen items

Big Island police have recovered more items as part of a continuing investigation of break-ins recently occurring at homes in the Waikoloa area of South Kohala.

Police also have found two juvenile suspects allegedly involved in the burglaries.

Additional items recovered include a digital camera, women's jewelry and video games, valued at more than $1,100.
