By Zenaida Serrano Espanol
Advertiser Staff Writer

The 'ukulele stylings of Jake Shimabukuro may be hard for most to imitate, but the virtuoso is willing to help anyone interested to try at 'Ukulele Symposium 2002, to be held 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kaimuki High School band room.

The all-day event will consist of 45-minute sessions for children (ages 6-12), adults (ages 13 and up) and seniors (ages 60 and up). Shimabukuro will teach the students basic techniques, such as picking and strumming.

The highlight will be a concert at the end of the day at the school's auditorium featuring Shimabukuro and the students, said Shimabukuro's manager, Kazusa Flanagan. The concert is open to the public and will cost $8, which includes pupu, ice cream and door prizes.

The cost for the symposium is $35 for the senior sessions and $45 for the adult and children sessions. For registration forms or details, visit jakeshimabukuro.com or call 478-0080.
