Theft of sports jackets probed
CrimeStoppers is trying to help recover 26 collectible sports jackets stolen from a Kuli'ou'ou home about a month ago and valued at a total of about $60,000.
The jackets, which represent assorted college and professional sports teams, are worth about $2,300 each. The owner, who had moved into another home while his own home was undergoing security renovations due to a previous theft, discovered that the entire set of 29 jackets had been taken from the home between Feb. 22 and March 3, police said.
Three of the jackets have been recovered. There was no break-in at the home, so police are investigating whether someone who had access to the home may have committed the theft, said Detective Letha DeCaires.
The owner has offered to help CrimeStoppers offset some of the financial loss to people who may have purchased the stolen jackets, DeCaires said.
