13 airlifted off Na Pali trail

Thirteen people were rescued on Kaua'i Saturday after being trapped by a flooded stream on a Na Pali Coast trail, fire officials said yesterday.

The hikers were airlifted by Kaua'i Fire Department helicopter equipped with a safety basket. The operation near the Hanakapi'ai Stream took from about 4:45 p.m. to about 8 p.m.

They were taken to a hill about a quarter mile away, and hiked the remaining 1fl miles, escorted by Hanalei rescue workers.
