Police arrest robbery suspect

A 30-year-old man was arrested today on suspicion of robbing an acquaintance in Waimanalo who had just reached out to shake his hand.

The victim, 50, was walking home on 'Olu'olu Street at 12:45 a.m. when he was approached by a bicyclist, whom he recognized. He put a hand out to shake hands when the suspect allegedly grabbed his arm, threw him down onto the roadway and seized his wallet.

The victim's nephew and wife, who were driving by, learned of the robbery and confronted the suspect, who then fled. Police arrested him at his home.

Leads sought in burglary

Police are seeking leads in a Wai'alae Iki Ridge burglary case in which the culprit stole an elderly man's new car and then returned to steal bank cards and other valuables, all while the victim was in the hospital.

The 80-year-old victim's home, on Kumakani Loop, was burglarized twice while he was in the hospital March 7 to 9, police said.

The first time, the burglar took car keys and left with the victim's 2002 silver Acura TL four-door sedan, still equipped with a paper license instead of plates.

The burglar then returned and used the car's garage-door opener to break in and took a silver dollar coin collection, a TV and a wallet with the victim's ID and bank cards.

At 9:21 p.m. March 9, a man attempted to use the bank cards to access the victim's account at American Savings Bank in Pearlridge and was photographed by the surveillance camera.

The suspect is a Caucasian man in his mid-20s with dark short hair, a mustache and a medium build.

Police Detective Dennis Kim said the crime occurred about 1:30 a.m. yesterday. The 32-year-old victim was acquainted with the suspect, police said, who allegedly broke into the home and awakened her.

After the suspect began to sexually assault her, the victim called police and ran from her home. Police arrested the woman on suspicion of third-degree sexual assault, burglary and kidnapping.

Arrest made in Sunday break-in

A 42-year-old man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's Punchbowl apartment Sunday night, assaulted her and kept her from leaving.

The crime was reported yesterday, after the suspect had held the 47-year-old victim in her 'Iolani Avenue apartment against her will overnight, and assaulted her with a baseball bat.

He was found in the area yesterday and arrested for burglary, kidnapping and second-degree assault.
