State Rep. Nestor Garcia announced yesterday he will not run for re-election, but said he intends to remain in politics.
Garcia, 45, declined to say what office he plans to seek.
Garcia, a former TV reporter who is finishing his fourth two-year term, told colleagues on the House floor yesterday that this is his last year as a state lawmaker.
"I appreciate the opportunity, the privilege to have served the people of my district, and the opportunity to have served the state as well, but I'd like to move on," he said.
"I'm not being driven out, but I am being attracted by another opportunity that hopefully will start to take shape in the next few weeks," said Garcia, D-37th (Waipahu, Crestview).
