Visitor to bay dies in hospital
A 52-year-old Washington state man who was found Monday at Hanauma Bay died yesterday morning, officials said.
Douglas Wayne Robbins of Vancouver, Wash., was found unconscious on the beach by city lifeguards.
A visitor identified as a physician was attempting to revive Robbins, who was "completely unresponsive" when lifeguards reached him, said Jim Howe, chief of operations for the city's Ocean Safety Division.
He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, where he died yesterday morning.
A spokeswoman for the city medical examiner's office, who released his identity, said an autopsy would be performed today to determine the cause of death.
Waimanalo robbery suspect arrested
A 30-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of robbing an acquaintance in Waimanalo who had just reached out to shake his hand.
The victim, 50, was walking home on 'Olu'olu Street at 12:45 a.m. when he was approached by a bicyclist, whom he recognized. He put a hand out to shake hands when the bicyclist allegedly grabbed his arm, threw him onto the roadway and seized his wallet.
The victim's nephew and wife, who were driving by, learned of the robbery and confronted the man, who then fled. Police arrested him at his home.
Woman arrested in sexual assault
A 26-year-old woman was arrested Monday on suspicion of sexual assault of another woman in Temple Valley.
Police Detective Dennis Kim said the crime occurred about 1:30 a.m. yesterday. The 32-year-old victim was acquainted with the suspect, police said, who allegedly broke into the home and awakened her.
After the suspect began to sexually assault her, the victim called police and ran from her home. Police arrested the woman on suspicion of third-degree sexual assault, burglary and kidnapping.
Arrest made in Sunday assault
A 42-year-old man was arrested Monday after he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's Punchbowl apartment Sunday night, assaulted her and kept her from leaving.
The crime was reported Monday after the suspect had held the 47-year-old victim in her 'Iolani Avenue apartment against her will overnight, and assaulted her with a baseball bat, police said.
The man was found in the area Monday and arrested for burglary, kidnapping and second-degree assault.
Camera captures thieves in action
A surveillance camera last month snapped a picture of a truck pulling away with a picnic table and benches from a McCully condo complex, and police are asking for help identifying it.
A dark-colored Chevrolet pickup truck, with gray primer on the sides of the bed and driver's-side door and an aluminum tool box in the bed of the truck, was videotaped at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 11 driving into the Princess Leilani Condominiums, 1561 Kanunu St.
The vehicle entered the parking lot empty and left a few minutes later with the picnic table and benches, valued at $400.
