Landfill remark period extended
The public comment period has been extended on the city's proposal to expand the Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill in Kahe Valley, the city and county Department of Environmental Services announced yesterday.
The deadline was Feb. 19, but comments will be accepted until April 19 under the extension.
It marks at least the sixth time that the public comment deadline has been extended.
The city wants to expand the landfill by 60.5 acres and continue to use the site until the year 2017.
Otherwise, the landfill is expected to reach capacity this year.
