Buffett will play at Duke's today

By Wayne Harada

HOT TIP: Jimmy Buffett, holed up on Maui, where he is writing a book, gives a rare performance at 5 p.m. today at Duke's, on the beach at the Outrigger Waikiki Hotel.

Buffett will perform new songs from his just-out CD, "Far Side of the World," his 33rd release and the first on his own Mailboat Records label. He can be coaxed to dig up the oldies, too, such as "Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise.," from a vast repertoire dating to his recording debut in 1970.

The Duke's session, an acoustic solo endeavor, is an appetizer for Buffett's forthcoming tour to promote his new CD, which starts up in April.

About 300 people can be accommodated; $25 tickets go on sale at 4 p.m. today at the restaurant.

Sorry, no phone reservations, and seating will be first-come, first-served.
