Hilo man arrested, held for threatening Big Isle mayor

Advertiser Staff

HILO, Hawai'i — A Hilo man accused of terroristic threatening for allegedly threatening to cut off Mayor Harry Kim's head last year, was arrested and charged yesterday following an indictment last week by the Hawai'i County Grand Jury.

Roy Oshita, 58, who resides in Waiakea, was held in lieu of $55,000 bail pending a bail hearing at 11 a.m. today before Judge Greg Nakamura on the felony offense. He also was arrested on a warrant for contempt of court in an unrelated case.

The indictment stemmed from a Jan. 9, 2001, telephone threat Oshita allegedly made to one of Kim's secretaries about a month after he took office.
