Oklahoma State wins Wahine golf event

Emma Zackrisson shot a final-round even-par 72 yesterday to win the individual title and lead Oklahoma State to a 12-stroke victory in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Rainbow Wahine Golf Invitational at the Kane'ohe Klipper course.

Zackrisson finished with a three-round total of 222 to beat DRae Ward of Texas Christian by three strokes. Jessica Shepley of Tennessee finished third at 226.

Oklahoma State closed with a 299 total for a three-round score of 908. Oklahoma finished second in the 12-team field at 920, followed by TCU at 924.

Host University of Hawai'i finished ninth with 329—980. Senior Melanie Matsumura led the Rainbow Wahine with 83—239, tying her for 26th place.


SOFTBALL

• UHH sweeps BYUH: Taysha Anderson pitched a six-hitter in the opener and Kristine Kahoalii tossed a two-hitter in the second game as Hawai'i-Hilo swept Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 1-0 and 8-0, yesterday in Pacific West action at the UHH field.

Anderson (7-1) struck out six, and Kahoalii (8-2) struck out five.

Diana Kim batted 2-for-5 and singled home the only run with one out in the ninth inning of the opener.

Leinani Hashida and Nancy Vega each had two hits and the Vulcans scored six runs in the third inning to pull away in the second game.

UH-Hilo improved to 21-6 overall and 10-2 in the PacWest. BYUH fell to 7-14 and 4-5.


VOLLEYBALL

• UH sets youth camps: The University of Hawai'i Wahine volleyball team will conduct its 21st Annual Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Camp in four sessions.

Coach Dave Shoji, along with current and former volleyball players, will work the clinics.

The camps will be held from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. and will be open to boys and girls entering grades fourth through 12th. Sessions will be held June 17-20, July 18-21, August 1-4 and August 6-9.

Cost is $135 per session. The August 6-9 session will offer dormitory and meal service for an extra $240.
