WRESTLING

Lee advances: Travis Lee of Honolulu pinned a much higher-seeded opponent with eight seconds left in the match last night to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at Albany, N.Y.

Lee, a freshman at Cornell, is seeded 11th in the 125-pound division. He was leading sixth-seeded veteran Matt Ridings of Oklahoma 6-5 in a second-round match when he pinned Ridings at 6 minutes and 52 seconds of the 7-minute match.

The victory thrusts Lee, a 2001 St. Louis School graduate from Liliha, into this morning's quarterfinals against third-seeded Skyler Holman of Oklahoma State.

Ridings had defeated Lee 8-6 at the Lone Star Duals in Dallas, Texas, early in the season. Since then Lee ran his record to 28-7 and was the only freshman to win an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association championship.

Lee defeated Matthews Pitts of Chattanooga 6-3 in the first round yesterday.
