McCormack joining Arizona development firm

Third-generation ka-ma'aina developer G. Scott McCormack is leaving Honolulu commercial real estate firm CB Richard Ellis Hawaii Inc. to take a position at an Arizona real estate investment and development company.

McCormack, son of Mike McCormack and grandson of the late Tom F. McCormack, both Hawai'i developers, said in an announcement that he will become senior vice president at Phoenix-based Grossman Company Properties April 1.

Joe Haas, managing partner at CB Richard Ellis Hawaii, said McCormack did well at the company most recently as a senior vice president, but he was a developer at a brokerage firm.

"Scott's a developer; they are the risk takers and the dreamers," Haas said. "He has an opportunity to get back into development ... and we're all happy for him."

McCormack, 40, joined CB Richard Ellis as co-managing director two years ago as part of a group of executives who purchased the company from its national parent. He will continue to be a director.

Before joining CB, McCormack was a senior vice president at Trinity Investment Trust LLC, a firm that acquired Aloha Tower Marketplace, part of Harbor Court and two Maui hotels.

McCormack recently has been working on plans to develop a 160-unit hotel, maritime office building and 1,000-stall parking garage next to Aloha Tower — one of at least two proposals for the property.

At Grossman, McCormack will assist in acquiring, repositioning and developing properties, especially luxury hotels, apartments and office buildings in the western United States.
