Learn to preserve oral heritage

By Zenaida Serrano Espanol

Oral history, some say, preserves the human side of history, which is why organizers at the Mission Houses Museum will hold "The Oral History: A How-To Workshop," 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 13 and May 11, and 10 a.m. to noon June 1.

Oral history is a valuable way to collect and preserve the memories, stories and traditions of a family or community, said Jessica Osland, the museum's education specialist.

The first session will cover oral history interviews, the second will review the class' results and discuss techniques for managing material, and the third session will be a show-and-tell brunch where participants will share the outcomes of their projects. Registration is $40, or $20 for high school and college students. Call 531-0481 for details.
