Achievers

Meghan Deagle, a student at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa who is from the Queen Charlotte Islands of British Columbia, was the first recipient of the Kane Fernandez Scholarship, a full, four-year scholarship that will cover her tuition, books, housing and meals.

Drew Murakami, a 14-year-old student at Pacific Ballet Academy from Honolulu, received a Certificate of Recognition at the International Youth Grand Prix Ballet Competition held earlier this month in Long Beach, Calif. Murakami placed 13 out of 55 competitors in her age group.

Rayna Yamamoto of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Honolulu, was selected as one of the Mayor's 100 Teens, a program in Colorado Springs that recognizes outstanding high school teens.

These students received perfect scores at a recent O'ahu Math League meet: Ryan Lau, Ravi Patel, Anne Yeung and Eric Yim, Iolani School; Hidetaka Hattori, Mid-Pacific Institute; and Jenny Chan, Punahou School. About 30 high schools and more than 300 students participate in the league each month.
