Rainbow Wahine hold off Hofstra in tourney

Kate Judd hit a two-run double in the top of the seventh inning to lift the University of Hawai'i to a 5-3 victory over Hofstra (N.Y.) in the Hawai'i Invitational at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Judd's homer gave UH a 5-0 lead, but Hofstra's Meaghan Almon hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Sheri Oronoz (13-7) pitched the complete-game for the victory.

Hawai'i is 21-14, Hofstra 7-17.

In other tournament games, Nittaidai No. 1 defeated Northwestern, 5-4; Northwestern beat California, 1-0; California defeated Nittaidai No. 1, 3-2; Nittaidai No. 1 defeated Nittaidai No. 2, 11-3 and Northwestern stopped Hofstra, 2-0.

• HPU sweeps: Brandy Choy Foo went 4-for-5, scoring six runs with 5 RBIs to lift Hawai'i Pacific to a doubleheader sweep over Brigham Young-Hawai'i in a Pacific West Conference doubleheader at HPU Windward Field yesterday.

Mallory Anderson pitched a one hitter in HPU's 7-1 victory in the opener. Choy Foo hit a homer.

The Sea Warriors (16-7 overall, 4-2 in the PacWest) beat the Seasiders (7-16, 1-7), 10-3, in the second game. Kim Fukumoto had two hits for HPU. Maggie Reynolds was 3-for-3 for BYUH.

The softball doubleheader between Chaminade and Hawai'i-Hilo was not reported.
