Frequent fliers get e-perks

If you're a frequent flier redeeming a free travel award, it can pay off handsomely to book a flight on the Internet.
Through April 30, members of Northwest's WorldPerks program, for example, receive a 3,000-mile bonus if they book their free international flight on the airline's Web site. For a free domestic flight booking, they get 1,500 miles.
Members of American Airlines' AAdvantage program are automatically credited with 1,000 miles when they book a free trip online, spokeswoman Sonja Whiteman says.
Through the end of this month, the same amount of miles also is awarded to Hawaiian Airlines' frequent-flier program members who use computers to book a free round-trip award ticket between the Hawaiian Islands.
Other carriers, however, either don't allow their frequent fliers to book their free travel online or don't provide a mileage bonus for doing so.
