Man charged, held in assault on visitor

A 44-year-old homeless man has been charged in an assault that left a school bandleader from Palmdale, Calif., with a broken ankle Tuesday.

Dalbert Pagador, 44, was charged Wednesday with second-degree assault after a scuffle with Sam Perez, Palmdale High School band director. Pagador is being held in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Police said the argument started at 2:40 p.m. after the band had finished playing at the Kapi'olani Park bandstand. Pagador had been causing a disruption, and when Perez confronted him, Pagador pushed him, causing the fall and the leg injury.

He underwent surgery for the ankle fracture Wednesday at Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center.

Chinatown stabbing suspect arrested

A 27-year-old Waipahu woman was arrested Thursday night in Chinatown on suspicion of stabbing a man in the neck.

Police said the victim, 36, was upgraded from critical to guarded condition yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center. Hospital staff would not release updates. Homicide detectives are assigned to handle the investigation because the injury is life-threatening, police said.

Witnesses saw the woman and the man arguing at about 8:20 p.m. near the intersection of North Pauahi and River streets, said homicide Lt. Bill Kato. "They thought the suspect punched or hit the man in the neck, and didn't see the sharp object. ... But then the victim grabbed for his neck and they saw the puncture wound." The suspect fled but was arrested at 10:10 p.m.
