In an effort to increase awareness of child abuse during Child Abuse Prevention month in April, Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii and the Partners for Prevention will sponsor a "Child Abuse Vigil" 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday at the State Capitol. For the event, which carries the theme, "Walk a Mile in Their Shoes," organizers want to collect more than 5,000 pairs of shoes to create a graphic representation of the number of children who are abused each year in Hawai'i.
