RALPH "ROPE" NELSON, 86, of Kennewick, Wash, died April 11, 2002. Born in Wailuku, Maui. A former merchant marine; early pioneer and skipper in the Kona, Hawai'i, sportfishing industry; holder of several world fishing records; first recipient of the Henry Chee Award; and Puget Sound, San Juan Islands, charter fishing, whale-watching and sightseeing skipper. Survived by wife, LaVerne; sons, Michael, John, Peter and Patrick; stepchildren, David, Rick Drollinger and Diana Hawkins; eight grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Eileen Carter, Yvonne Perry, Joy Snyder and Marge Wilson.
