By Brandon Masuoka

Donna Borengasser, a friend of the late Honolulu Police Officer Dannygriggs Padayao, will deliver a special message at a Police Week memorial service on May 12, one of several activities for the weeklong commemoration that runs through May 18.

A motorist struck and killed Padayao, 46, while he was setting up flares for a traffic collision on Kamehameha Highway in Waikane on April 30, 2001.

The city will kick off Police Week on O'ahu on May 13 with a noon ceremony at Ala Moana Center's Centerstage.

The following public activities will take place:

• A memorial service will be held for Honolulu police officers who died in the line of duty or while working at the Honolulu Police Department. The ecumenical service will be conducted by HPD chaplains at 6 p.m. May 12 at St. Andrew's Cathedral.

• The department's Community Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 18 at Kapi'olani Park. Police vehicles, a helicopter and the department's mounted unit and canine unit will be there.
