Longboard Steinlager Series to open

The Hawaiian Longboard Federation 2002 Steinlager Series will begin this weekend with the Hawaiian South Shore Open at Kuhio Beach, Waikiki.
Around 200 longboard surfers are expected to participate in the four-event summer series.
Competition will be held in both amateur and professional divisions for males and females. All competitors must ride longboards surfboards that are approximately 9 feet long.

- June 22-23: Aston No Ka Oi (Lahaina Harbor, Maui)
- July 20-21: Moku Hawai'i Longboard Open (Ala Moana Bowls)
- Sept. 14-15: Aston Hotels Surf Classic (Kuhio Beach, Waikiki)
Paddling
Relay set for Sunday: The 2002 Starbucks Ka'iwi Channel Relay World Championship One-Person and Two-Person Outrigger Canoe Race will be Sunday.
The race will start at the west end of Moloka'i and finish at the Ala Wai Harbor entrance, a distance of 40.2 miles.
This year's event is a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Hawai'i.
The winners are expected to corss the finish line at approximately 1:30 p.m.
