The University of Hawai'i won its first ever NCAA men's title when its No. 2-ranked volleyball team upset No. 1-ranked Pepperdine in the NCAA championship today in University Park, Pa.

The scores were 29-31, 31-29, 30-21, 30-24.

It was UH's first victory over Pepperdine this season after three losses, including one last Saturday in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship. The previous three games were played in Malibu, home of the Pepperdine Waves.

The Warriors fly back to Hawai'i tomorrow on United Airlines flight 61, which will arrive at Honolulu International Airport at 6:33 p.m. Fans can meet the team at the baggage claim area.

The closest the UH men came to winning an NCAA title was when it finished second in volleyball to UCLA in 1996 and second in baseball to Arizona in 1980.

UH came to the final four as an at-large team and beat host Penn State Thursday to reach the final.

UH finished 24-8. Pepperdine ended 29-6.
