Grammar lost during egg hunt
Before coming to my home for Easter, my cousin tried to prepare her 2-year-old son, Blake, for his first egg hunt. At the time he was just learning to speak in sentences, and with a grandmother and mother who both were English teachers, good grammar was paramount.
My cousin taught him how to open a plastic egg to get to the candy inside. Oh, Blake could hardly wait for the actual hunt.
When the time came, my cousin and her son hid in another room while we placed 12 plastic eggs all over the living and family rooms. Fearing contamination, I had decided not to put candy into the eggs, but simply kept the candy in a separate bag.
Blake came out and raced to the first egg. He sat down, opened the egg and, seeing nothing inside, placed the two halves into his basket. He did this for the second and third eggs.
When he reached the fourth egg, he asked his mom, "Get candy?"
