Junior lifeguard session set

Registration for the Junior Lifeguard Program 2002 will be held May 11 at various locations around O'ahu.

The sessions will be held in June and July. The five-day course will introduce students to ocean and beach skills, including safety, first aid, and rescue techniques.

The program is open to boys and girls ages 13 to 17 with strong swimming abilities. Instruction will be provided by certified City and County of Honolulu lifeguards.

Registration is scheduled for May 11 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the following locations: The City Store in Ala Moana Shopping Center, Kalama Beach Park, Pupukea Foodland, and Wai'anae Store. A $25 donation is suggested. Students can sign up for any of the following sessions: June 10-14, June 17-21, June 24-28, July 8-12, July 15-19, July 22-29, or July 29-Aug. 2. They can also choose from four different locations: Kalama Beach Park (Kailua), Ala Moana Beach Park, Poka'i Bay, or Ehukai Beach Park.


QUARTERBACK CLUB

• Sullivan to speak: Jack Sullivan, known as Mr. Soccer in Hawai'i, will be one of the speakers at tomorrow's 11:30 a.m. Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon at the Pagoda Hotel.

Other speakers will be:

• Tiare Rickert-Finney, steersman and coach of Team O'ahu, which won a gold medal for the 1000-meter World Sprints canoe race for women 45 and over in Tahiti in March.

• Diane Stowell, master swimmer and volunteer coordinator, National Masters short course championships.

• Ralph Martinson, former athletic director of Punahou School, who will talk about the late Clay Benham and his impact on the Interscholastic League of Honolulu.
