The repairs June 3 through 14 will include replacing railing and construction of a new ramp to improve access for wheelchair visitors. Maintenance also will be performed on Navy shuttle boats. Tours to the memorial will be unavailable during that time.

The public is advised to check the park's automated information line at (808) 422-0561 for updates.

The memorial's visitor center, bookstore and museum will remain open while the memorial repairs are being conducted. The documentary film will continue to be offered from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the memorial can be viewed from the visitor center from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The National Park Service said the improvements will make it possible for wheelchair visitors to board the memorial via a ramp, eliminating the electric lift. The work also will address wear and tear.
