A&B chief on BancWest board

W. Allen Doane, president and chief executive officer of Alexander & Baldwin Inc., has been named a director of BancWest Corp., the parent company of First Hawaiian Bank.

Doane, a former executive with C. Brewer & Co., is filling one of two board seats being vacated by the retiring J.W.A. "Doc" Buyers, a former chairman and chief executive officer of C. Brewer, and Gen. Fred Weyand, former Army Chief of Staff and Damon Estate trustee. Buyers had been on the BancWest board since 1994; Weyand since 1986.

Doane has been a member of First Hawaiian's board since 1999. He joined A&B in 1991 and was named president in 1998.

BancWest's board of directors decided to reduce the board's size from 20 members to 19 earlier this year, with the retirement of Buyers and Weyand, the company said.
