The firm is in discussions with other sports programs to provide the service for their games.

Maui students build office

KAHULUI, Maui — Students in a building apprenticeship program at Maui Community College have designed and built an office that will give police a presence on campus.

MCC paid the $13,000 cost of the building, on the west end of the campus.

Maui Police Chief Tom Phillips said the office is not a full-fledged substation but will allow officers to come in and use the phone, write reports on a computer or take complaints instead of driving all the way back to headquarters.

It won't be staffed on a 24-hour basis, he said.

"The benefit to the college is they'll have officers coming off and on the campus. And maybe it will help us with recruiting."
