UH makes a point: It's big-time and for real
This was one for all those kids spiking and serving their hearts out in school gyms, on playgrounds and on makeshift backyard courts. This was one the weekend volleyball players who love the game too much to give it up even when their joints begin to ache and their jump isn't what it used to be.
Volleyball is a big part of life in Hawai'i, and now we can celebrate it even more with the first men's NCAA championship in University of Hawai'i history.
It was a glorious moment for the state and for the university as a determined Rainbow Warrior team set back rival Pepperdine for the national championship.
It adds luster to a volleyball program that has already established a big-time reputation with no fewer than four Rainbow Wahine national championships.
And it comes at a time when the university is aggressively promoting the UH's image as a big-time campus that can stand with the best of them.
What better way to make that statement than a national championship by our diverse "United Nations" men's volleyball team? Congratulations!
